Cup Qualifying Rained Out; Smith to Start in the Back
News
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 3, 2009) -- Friday was another good news, bad news qualifying scenario for Furniture Row Racing driver Regan Smith.

For the second week in a row Sprint Cup qualifying was canceled due to rain. The starting field for Saturday night's Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway was set according to the NASCAR rulebook, meaning that Smith will start 43rd.

"We're in the show and that's good, but on the other hand we're disappointed because we were confident that we had a top-10 qualifying car," said Smith. "Starting at the back at Daytona is not like starting at the back at the one-mile track in New Hampshire. We have a strong Furniture Row car and feel that we can work our way to the front."

The top-five starters in order will be: Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch and Carl Edwards.

Saturday's race will be televised on TNT, beginning with a 90-minute prerace show at 4:30 p.m. MT.
