Smith Qualifies 34th in Pocono
LONG POND, Pa. (July 30, 2010) -- Regan Smith will start 34th in Sunday's Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 Sprint Cup race.
In Friday's time trials at Pocono Raceway, Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet toured the 2.5-mile triangular track in 53.896 seconds at 166.968 miles per hour.
"I got way too loose coming out of Turn 3," said Smith. "It's not the ideal starting position, but we've battled from the back many times this year. I know we can do it again on Sunday. "
Claiming the pole was Tony Stewart (171.593 mph). Rounding out the top-five in order were: Juan Pablo Montoya, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon and Ryan Newman.
Sunday's race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a prerace show at 10 a.m. MT.
