Loudon Lessons Learned
Denver, CO- Furniture Row Racing's Cup program will be headed back to Dover International Speedway this weekend.This weekend's race marks the 28th NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race of the season, and the second of ten races in the 2006 Chase for the Cup.
The team is recouping from a disappointing run at Loudon last weekend.
The #78 Furniture Row Chevy Monte Carlo didn't qualify. Crew chief Joe Garone explains what went amiss. "Loudon was not a good day for the team. We had brake problems with the car. Unfortunately, we didn’t locate the problem until practice was over. We fixed the brakes, however we faced set up issues at that point.Subsequently, the car set up was not fitted with the proper break balance. This kept us from running a good lap for qualifying."
However, the team pushes forward. Garone and the crew will be testing this week with driver Max Papis in Kentucky. The team then heads to Dover on Thursday to prepare for the race with driver Kenny Wallace.
Driver Kenny Wallace is ready to attack Dover's monster mile. The track is a regular oval with 24 degrees of banking in the turns and 9 degrees on the straight-aways. While there is not much passing at Dover, the cars move frighteningly fast down the straightaway to the high-banked turns.
Historically having a strong qualifying run at Dover is extremely important for running a solid race. Six of the last seven races at Dover have been won from a top-10 starting position. Only seven of the 73 race winners started from a starting position outside the top 15.
